If you are a cat lover, be sure not to miss the unique exhibition, 9 Lives Design Show.
Nine designers will shake up the design scene here with the first-ever 9 Lives exhibition to showcase their innovative furniture designs for cats. The exhibition will be held at the Visual Arts Centre in conjunction with Singapore Design Week (SDW) 2017.
9 Lives, the brainchild of Singapore artist and entrepreneur Tan Chin Chin, aims to engage and inspire Singaporeans to think critically about how innovative design can enhance the living conditions of their cats in land-scarce Singapore as more Singaporeans adopt street cats and integrate them into their households.
The furniture designs are not only creative but also pragmatic, and priority is placed on maintaining the wellbeing of indoor cats.
They are working closely with Cat Welfare Society (CWS), which is also the exhibition’s beneficiary, to explore ways to raise awareness of the plight of street cats through the exhibition. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the cat furniture will be donated to the CWS.
9 Lives will take place from 4 to 6 Mar 2017 at the Visual Arts Centre on 10 Penang Road.

In the Batik Introduction Handkerchief Painting workshop, participants will learn the traditional art of batik, a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from Indonesia. The workshop begins with a brief history and overview of batik, highlighting its cultural significance and various techniques. Participants will then observe a demonstration of applying wax with tjanting tools and dyeing the fabric. Following the demonstration, each participant will design and create their own batik handkerchief, applying wax to create patterns and then dyeing their fabric. The workshop concludes with a group discussion, allowing participants to share their creations and reflect on their learning experience.
