To better understand the title, Border, we bring attention to the works that incorporate the circle as the main focus point as viewed in his works: Unknown Planet, Chinese Ink on Rice Paper. We accurately describe the circle, the line, as the border and the content the disc. The line is fluidly executed by the hand of the artist and lacks harshness that would indicate restriction. The contents or disc display Liu’s chosen print method, Lithograph Printing, covering the colour spectrum of monochrome to low intensity blues, greens and yellows. In these works whilst we can view and interpret a border in the outline of the circle, the artist has created a seemingly revolving image through the use of depth and dimension in the area referred to as the disc.
Liu’s works can be divided into three separate but connected groups of works. The subtle divisions and overlapping that naturally connect the works, create gentle and organic links that bring the works together cohesively under the title and on their own: the works still remain both ethereal and influential pieces. Our fascination with everyday objects interpreted by the artist is presented in Leo’s collection of works named under the series: Talking, Chinese Ink On Paper
