In this Lotus and Landscape series, we have the opportunity to focus on two of Fan Shao Hua’s most particular passions. These are subject matters that resonate with deeply held historical, artistic and philosophical traditions in China and the wider world. Fan Shao Hua openly acknowledges these connections, and takes viewers of these powerful themes further into his own particular vision of creativity, imagination, energy and the essential life force.
Experience the beauty of these two series from Fan Shao Hua’s 2015 collection to his most recent work at the exhibition.

Fan Shao Hua was born in 1963 in the city of Guangzhou, China and began studying Chinese ink painting from the tender age of 10. He graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts with a Bachelor of Arts. Besides being the prestigious winner of ‘Painting of the Year Award’ at the 19th UOB Painting of the Year Competition in 2000 and International Premium Oil Painting Artist Award in Hong Kong, Fan has through the years won numerous art awards and to date has held 29 local and overseas solo exhibitions. He has been featured in a number of publications such as Mondial Collections Art in Asia, American International Artist Magazines, Asian Art News, Channel News Asia and Straits Times Singapore.

In the Batik Introduction Handkerchief Painting workshop, participants will learn the traditional art of batik, a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from Indonesia. The workshop begins with a brief history and overview of batik, highlighting its cultural significance and various techniques. Participants will then observe a demonstration of applying wax with tjanting tools and dyeing the fabric. Following the demonstration, each participant will design and create their own batik handkerchief, applying wax to create patterns and then dyeing their fabric. The workshop concludes with a group discussion, allowing participants to share their creations and reflect on their learning experience.
